I am a soon to be chicken owner, my already built coop is a good size but I want to give my chickens some more exercise. So I was thinking of getting a chicken harness. But I am not sure if this is the best thing for my chickens.

Are there any thoughts, or advice for me?

Hmm well those things always looked more to me to be fun for the human, not so much the chicken.

How big is you run/run-to-be? Chickens don't really need exercise, not like a dog, but they do need adequate space to wander around.

I got one of these as a gag gift from a family member. I did put it on one of my hens who is more accepting of being handled. She hated it and nearly flipped herself over trying to pull it off with her beak. I could distract her with treats and did "walk" (she was really just trying to run away from me and the halter) her around the yard, but as others have stated the harness is really more for entertainment value. Unless you plan to spend a lot of time adjusting your hen to the harness and leash, I don't recommend it as an alternative to a run or supervised free ranging if you don't have a well fenced yard.
