Hi everyone. This is my first time hatching eggs. I had two babies hatch last night. When they got fluffy I moved them to the brooder this morning. They both looked fine. I left them for a couple of hours and when I came back I noticed one keeps closing it's eye. He keeps one side open, but the other closed. Both are already eating and moving around fine. I have pine shavings as the bedding. Is this something to be worried about or is it likely it's just irritated?

Congratulations on your first hatch! I have had hciks do this before, and it seems like most of the time, that particular eye is just irrritated for one reason or another. If it's eating and drinking, and not closing both of it's eyes at once, it's probably just irritated.

I ended up wiping it with a warm cloth and he's doing fine now :) Its my first hatch so I didn't know what to expect. Thanks for the responses! Side note, I had one chick that pipped (correct term?) Yesterday evening. His beak was through the shell and breathing. When I woke up this morning I had one chick that hatched but he died in the shell :( It looked like some yellow fluid was dried around the opening. Any suggestions as to what happened?
