Hi ! So i was planning on geting 2 female quails from a local place that sells babies, the only problem is, the babies are too young to tell the gender easily. i was wondering if there was any way to tell what the gender is at this stage before buying

Need to know more information.....what breed of quail? How old are they now? In general, no.....not without DNA testing.

If it's Japanese/Coturnix quail the chicks need to be at least 3 weeks old to be semi sure (though that depends on the rate of growth of the breeders birds), and only some colours are visually sexable - the Pharohh/Wild colour, and the Italian colour. I find Pharoahs more difficult as they all start off looking like girls with lots of spots but in the males the spots disappear, revealing the rusty chest. Here are some of mine to show you a difference and the chicks are 2-3 weeks.

Here is an Italian female - very spotty chest

Here is an Italian male - sometimes they start out with some spots but that gold colour underneath says 'Boy'. Females will be cream/white coloured under their spots.

Here is a Pharoah female - no rusty colour whatsoever.

Here is the male - note the odd rusty coloured splotch.

And only a few days later those few rusty spots will turn into this:
