Well I have my coop (6X8) but now comes a decision and I'm not sure which way to go. I have been told to use pine shavings inside the coop which I was set to do, but I talked to a few people and they said to use cleaned Contractor / Construction Sand easier to clean and less smell. So I figured I would ask the experienced Chickeneers, any input would be appreciated.

A lot of experience here. I like Sand, but cleaning requires a sifter to get the poop out. I built a electric sifter and it works great, for sure makes things faster. I did use a manual sifter for about a year or two---it was about 20" x 30" with 1/8" hardware cloth. Pine shavings are fine---but they will scatter them and when they get messy you can scoop them up and haul away.

I was going to make a sifter out of a wide metal shovel----cutting out a lot of the bottom and adding 1/8" hardware cloth but instead built the electric one.
