Help! Lothargic and puffed up hen

Same with my girl...Not 100%, but much better. How do her legs look? Are they more scaley than usual or have elevated scales? She may have scaley leg mites. I would soak her legs in warm water with epsom salt, then gently brush them with warm (non-toxic) soapy water with an old toothbrush, and then slather their legs in organic coconut oil. Be sure to get the entire leg and feet because the object is to smother the insects, not allow them to move to a different location. (I microwave it for 5 sec to make it easier to apply) This is a benign way to smother leg mites, and it seems to have made my girl feel better and walk around a bit more. I also completely cleaned out their coop, and sprayed all wood surfaces (including the roosts) with vinegar and left it open to air out all afternoon, then replaced all pine shavings and cleaned the laying boxes really well.

Lastly, I added probiotics to their water and fed small amounts of water to her with a dropper to be sure she's drinking enough water. I have re-applied the coconut oil every evening, and they really seem to like it. I think the small dose of sugar when they clean their leg feathers helps a little with energy levels as well. Hopefully this helps?

Her legs look okay, I think. I'll look a little closer when I get home. Will the leg mites spread to the other chickens and how do they get them? I am going to clean the coop out really good again this weekend too. It's actually going to be better weather I believe this weekend

it's been cold and snowy which makes it hard to clean everything especially since nothing dries!
Thanks!!

Hi,

I am experiencing the same thing with one of my hens. She scratches around and is eating/drinking but then she just sits and puffs up. She isn't laying eggs yet and she is roosting at nighttime. Something just seems off.

Is her abdomen swollen? This picture makes it look like she's in a bit of a penguin stance.

I have a hen doing something similar. Is one wing, in our case it always been the right wing lower then the other wing, sort of held away from the body?
Does she just sit and stare?
Is she gulping?
How's her vent, clean or messy?

Like I said I have a hen going through something similar.
