I plan on using a trough to feed, inside the coop. Can it go under the nesting boxes? We built our own coop, and it is smaller than we planned, so space is a premium!
 
Hello! As long as your nesting boxes have solid bottoms, you can put your feeder under the boxes. If there is a chance of chicken poop getting into the feed, I wouldn't put the feeder there.

X 2 -- space inside a coop often becomes crowded, so using areas like under the nest boxes, etc is a good way to make the best use of what is there. Another option is if you opt for a "poop board" under the roost - this, like the nest boxes, will preserve the floor space underneath by protecting it from droppings from above. I use a poop board in my coops and place the feed/water station beneath it.
 
Are you planning to use a fermented or wet feed? If not, do you plan to have a cover of any sort on the trough? Asking as dry crumble/pellet is frequently subject to considerable loss to feed waste as an open/trough style feeder allows birds to access it for scratching or billing out of feed onto the floor. Situating the rim of the trough so that it is at a high chest height for the birds can help to reduce this, though depending on the actual style of the trough and how it is set they still might get up onto it and make a mess by scratching feed out or depositing waste into the feed.
 
Thx Ol Grey Mare! Originally I was going to use a poop pan. But the coop is on the ground and I've decided to do the deep litter method, in the coop and run.
I have RA and bending and cleaning is difficult. The idea of once a month or even just a few times a year cleaning is a no brainer! Lol
 
Just saw ur feed question. I'll use pellets, corn and s'times a mash. The trough will b metal with high sides and seperation bars, so sitting and waste will b minimized.....I hope.
