Unusual pipping and zipping

I'm trying to hatch 6 eggs in an incubator right now, and some are doing fine, attempting to zip out the egg, but a couple... aren't doing so hot... almost all my eggs are Wyandotte eggs, with the exception of one Old English egg.

UNZIPPING THE LONG WAY:
The Old English is trying to unzip around the full egg. By that I mean it's chipped off pieces of egg from the fat round end of the egg and by now has made it to the half way point of the bottom to the top. Will that end badly for him/her?

HALFWAY ZIPPING:
I also have an egg trying to unzip halfway through the egg. Will THIS one turn out ok?

TURNING DURING LOCKDOWN:
I went on vacation this weekend, and when I got back I found out that my incubator had been turning the eggs the WHOLE time I was gone... it was supposed to turn off a couple days ago and apparently never did. Are there issues that could cause? The chicks seem a bit disoriented.

UPSIDE DOWN PIP:
Almost to the end... due to the turning never ending, one chicks pup has ended up on the bottom of the egg. So I need to help or stick to the 'never open during lockdown'

WATER:
Finally, there isn't much water left in the incubator even though I filled it up a couple days ago. Should I quickly as possible try to add water if the eggs have only started piping so far or again stick to 'never open during lockdown'

The one who tried to unzip the long way made it out. No movement from any others yet though. I forgot to put a cloth on the bottom for them to stand on. Will they be ok until I can let them out? God I messed up on stupid stuff

You can put something in there for them to stand on, I'm not sure where the "never open the incubator at hatch time" rule came from, but I've never followed it and I've yet to lose any eggs for that reason -when you think of it, the hens don't either, and they can't.
It doesn't sound like your eggs need help quite yet either, just keep an eye on them... I've never seen one try hatching out the long way, though, that's interesting and I'm glad it got out okay.

Turning the eggs during lock down can cause them to be in the wrong position. Trying to pipe out at the bottom of the egg instead of the top. the chicks are moving into position, and with Auto rotate sill being on they can never get there or they get disorientated. I started turning my Auto rotate off at day 15-16 and all the chicks since then pip out the side facing up. I also noticed my chicks zipper faster, and fight harder to get out. I think letting them get into position and resting for awhile might be making the difference. As far as opening the incubator on lock down you don't want to do it, but if you need to get in there, To help a chick you do it as fast as you can specifically if you have other eggs that have started to zipper. I always throw a wet paper towl if I have to open on lock dow to make sure I get humidity up as fast as possible to prevent chicks from getting stuck in the shell. I think your chicks are fine as of now. Just watch them and give them time. I always give my chicks at least 12 hours from when they start to zipper, before I get worried. I had a chick once start zipper and got his head out completely and he stoped trying and he got stuck in the shell and I pulled him. I also had a chick pip out the wrong side of the egg on the "pointed" end I had to pull her as well but they both lived. I hope that helps. Good luck with your hatch.

Since I went to sleep last night I've only had one zip further. The only one out is doing great but the others just decided to stop. It's been 11 1/2 hours since I got home and saw the pip holes. I'm getting worried. What time do I need to help and is it possible to help them all if I'm quick. Obviously I won't leave the incubator open when/if I help but still. I'll go check out some other threads too

Also if I do end up having to help, how do I help exactly. Just pull off the shell near the pip? Some didn't even break membrane before the stopped, should I leave the membrane intact?

For me hatches normally take 3 days from first pip to last call for those remaining. If I have to open the incubator to move an egg, remove an overly active chick knocking the eggs around, add water... I lift the lid very slowly to reduce the blast of air (the air exchange from high humidity to room air with a much lower humidity) and then I move quickly to do what needs done, then close it slowly.

I usually give 24 hours or a little more before I decide to help one, they usually come out on their own if they pip. Depends on the eggs, and how strong the chicks are.

Chip away the shell, working your way around the shell same as they would. You can use tweezers or another tool to chip away the shell. You have to watch for blood, because they need to be fully absorbed when you go in after them. If you go through membrane and blood seeps out, put them back and try again in another 6 hours or so. That's the main reason I give them plenty of time before I go in to help if one seems to be struggling.

There are some things that can be wrong with them that would prevent them from hatching. I've found some pretty weird things during hatch time, mostly from when I was hatching a lot of shipped eggs. Chicks with enlarged heads, crossbeak, splay leg, looking ok but dead in the shell without pipping, pipping a single spot and then dying in less than 24 hours. Couldn't tell you if anything internal was going on with them. But I've been hatching on and off with the same method for 20 years now, since I started when I was 14. Only ran into issues with shipped eggs besides obvious incubation issues. Once the power went out and I wrapped the incubator in towels... was out almost overnight and then again a week later. They hatched on day 28 without issues. I saw movement when I candled so I opened one up on day 22. Encountered blood, they weren't ready yet! 90% hatch from them, late as they were.

Hatching is definitely something that takes practice! Read all you can on it.

I still can only hear one other chick peeping. It's still fairly faint though. I heard a chick scratching on the inside of an egg; it sounded like it came from the one who keeps peeping

One more hatched! I have renewed hope
