HELP please :( I just accidentally severed a chicks toe :( what do I do?!

Ok thanks! Anything systemic to treat her with? Aspirin and electrolytes or should we put antibiotics in her water too?

NO LINOCAINE!! It is toxic to chickens. Any pain killer with CAIN in the name is a NO NO. Spray the toe with Veterycin or blue cote or scarlet oil. The chick will be ok. Just separate her til it heals. Chicks are amazing! Let her rest in a clean, dry area till she walks again. It will amaze you how fast they heal. NO pain killer. She will be fine.

if you wash her with hydrogen peroxide soak her with warm/hot water because hydrogen peroxide could eat away flesh and soaking her will wash it away after it cleans her. ill looked up wait you can use to wrap her foot. gauze and vet wrap.

Sorry If I gave bad advice about Lidocaine cream. but that is what I put on one of my injured chickens and it did great. I put it on twice a day for about three weeks, and it seemed to help.

Thank you all so much for the advice! I got her cleaned and wrapped and she's in a dog kennel in the coop. I hope she will be ok!

Clean/flush the wound and foot with betadine, saline or Chlorhexidine. Apply some Vetericyn or triple antibiotic ointment to the wound. Do the best you can to wrap the toe to keep it relatively clean. Place her on clean dry bedding.

Offer her some poultry vitamins and some extra protein like egg or tuna in addition to her normal feed. Keep her hydrated.

IF you feel that she needs something for pain, consult your vet or offer her aspirin in her water (81mg to 1quart of water).
