treadle chicken feeder

Does anyone have any plans on how to make a treadle feeder for the chooks please. I am in New Zealand and the few I have seen here are quite expensive so would like hubby to have a go at making some...Thanks koogie

They are rodent proof feeders.  The weight of the chicken opens the feed tray, and closes when the chicken steps off.  Actually looks like a cool idea.  I wonder how hard it is to train the chickens?

3 x Barred Rock hens, 2 x Australorp pullets, and 3 x Golden Sex-Link chicks.

There aren't plans in the link, but there is a close up of the side to show how it works. It's a wood one though so maybe you could adapt it to metal.

Yep, that's the one my son is going to build for me, it looks brilliant. I would have liked a metal one that is available to purchase but they are just too expensive for moi. th

1. how are they working out for everyone?

2. has anyone made a waterproof version?

3. do the chickens ever get clocked in the head by the pop board?
