lovemychicknkids, how did you get the title Canning Squirrel? I've searched and looked through threads and didn't find anything...just curious

LOL...men are so funny!!! As for my special title (oh how I love saying that!!!)...you just have to get "caught" saying something a mod finds cute.

I was talking about my first experience canning and how I was so excited and felt like a squirrell storing food for the winter and got it.

Here are some pics of my first egg from a Buff Orpington at 19 weeks and 5 days. This hen went to the nest box and the bauking started. Only took about 5 minutes and she was back out running around. Makes me proud and sure was a long wait. John

The egg just looks big in the picture but the smaller egg is the one she laid. It's the size of a cadbury egg at easter. She just turned 5 months old this week and is the tamest hen of the 8 girls I have.

Here she is laying an egg today...in one of my potted plants. She didn't want to use the nest boxes in the coop. I hope she will start soon. I even have white ceramic eggs in there for inspiration

Has anyone out there had that same trouble with your young hens not using the boxes at first? Because she's tame, she even jump right up into my lap looking for a place to lay....LOL!
