how do you kill leg mites?

Hi I have been told tea tree oil is toxic for chickens specialy if used full strength .I read in another forum that someone had killed 8 out of 12 of their chickens this way .The best way I know to treat scale leg mites is wash the legs in warm soapy water use a soft nail brush to clean and soften up the mitegunk between the scales, dry the legs then rub the legs and feet with food type oil or vaseline it dosen't matter what you use as you are suffocating the mites ,do this every day for a week ,then just the oil occasionaly for a while untill the legs look healthy

I have also researched this as I have Three frizzle roos that had leg mites.

I finally just sold them off last night at a poultry auction. I treated them with pine tar and they all got much better. However, the damage was done and their legs looked like hell.

I do not like birds in my flock that are not "top notch" in health.

I do use DE religiously every two weeks. I have even changed out the roosting 2x2s. I continually look for mites and lice. I always pick up at least one unsuspecting chicken in the mornig and check them out.

I will go to the feed store today and get the Scarlex stuff.
I can not dip 100 chickens in alcohol, but I sure can spray their legs.

Have you ever tried to dip a chicken in ANYTHNG liguid ?
Holy "unhappy chicken" batman !!!

I just wanted people to know that scarlet oil spray is what finally worked for us. Vaseline wasnt working fast enough. We also changed out all bedding (twice because I accidentally did cedar and had to change it again). The scarlet oil worked fast.
