has anyone ever been bitten by a chicken?

Chickens are not mean. If you spend time with them everyday they will not bother you. Start spending time with your chickens and you will find they can be friendly,,,just like any other pet. You stop spending time with them and then they dont know who you are.

I had some hens who I spent HOURS with. Some days It was 30 mins at at time, holding, feeding, cuddling, other days it was 1 hour doing the same thing, every day. It didn't matter to them. They bit me and tried to chase me around the yard in order to fly up and bite me every chance they got. We hand raised them, carried them around, let them sleep on us when they were chicks but as soon as they hit the 3 month mark, they got real mean and tried to bit me evry chance they got. With a 5 year old at home, we had to rehome them because I was scared of them going after her. I tried every trick I could find to become the alpha hen/roo but they didn't respond at all, so finding them a new home was the next best thing to cooking them.

I have a rooster (soon to be Sunday dinner) that bit me the other day and drew blood threw the gloves I was wearing! Two days later he attacked me when I was feeding him. He has his own pen because the other roos were beating up on him. I have putting this off for several months now, but this is the first time he attacked me.

I have been bitten but only when they were scampering over each other to get to the treats. No blood or bruises though, It wasn't a vicious act, they were just over excited about the goodies. They have never even attempted to except when food when was involved.

Yes people can be bitten by chickens! Chicken don't typically bite but they can if so desired. I was bit by my rooster 4 days ago and he left a deep wound from his lower beak and barley grazed me with his upper beak. If this actually happens to you I recommend that you clean out the wound well. I did not clean it and the wound became infected and it made it semi-painful to walk.

Chickens will peck at anything they're curious about, but it can hurt! I've been bitten but I don't think it was intentional to hurt. One day I went in with my nails painted dark - never again! They went to town on my fingers!!

I have three hens I've hand raised and cuddled regularly with. One of the Rhode Island Reds has decided to peck me every chance she gets. I was letting a spider out the other day and she pecked me on the calf so hard it turned purple and swelled.

I'm getting to the point that I'm scared of her. Was just now giving them salad and she got me on the quad.

My granddaughter (almost three) won't go out with them now because she's been pecked by Kate, too.

The other RIR (Jaclyn) and Brahma (Farrah) are as sweet and docile as can be.

Any suggestions on getting Kate to stop being such a pecker?

How old are the birds? Any chance Kate is a Kevin?
