I have 8 almost two week old baby Rhode Island Red chicks. Two of them were a bit smaller than the others, but seemed fine. Now one of these has been having issues eliminating. her little butt looks like the pictures of prolapsed grown hens. any suggestions?

if there are other chicks in the brooder you have to remove the ones with the butt issue. the other chicks will peck at the rear, and worsen the problem. keep each chick with the issue separate. good luck

thank you. this forum and posting is new too me. very helpful! I put a little olive oil in there food and on the behinds. guess I will separate the two although nobody seems to be bothering them. keeping my fingers crossed. thanks again...

Were you able to gently reposition the prolapsed tissues back inside?
The prep H will shrink the tissues, may have to be repeated until tissue will fit back in there and it is vital that their diets be moistened to prevent it happening again...

I did separate the two and put molasses and a little water in the food
I cleaned them up and applied the prep H. how often can I use it in a day? everytime they poop the tissue pops back out and on one there seems to be a flap of ripped tissue. she also doesn't seem to drink much water if at all. although when I have a drop on my finger tip she takes it. otherwise they seem to act pretty okay considering.... would olive oil in the food be helpful also or is molasses better?

Both olive oil and molasses have caloric value and keep food in the gut soft.
You can use regular Prep H as often as you like, and keeping them hydrated is vital. Any photos?
I don't like the sound of that ripped tissue, is it possible one bird is pecking the other? ( in which case, they have to be separated too. )

Do you have any information from the provider of these chicks about whether there is a genetic problem? If you have been feeding starter crumble and water I don't know of any reason why you should be having this problem. Of course, others may...

What I would do is to mix up a wet mash out of their starter and feed that to them. Use hot water to soak up the feed faster and then cool it down to warm before giving it to them. That way it will increase their water intake.

I would start out a little on the wet side with the mash, just wet enough that it doesn't stick to your finger.
