Sad Day here at Heavens Door Acres.

Joanna,

I am very sorry for your loss.
I had a cat for over 17 years, Choochoo. I don't know why he bonded to me but he never left my side. I work from home on the computer and he would sleep next to my monitor all day. When I was watching a movie he would sit on the back of my recliner. If I was in the basement looking for something he would help me by meowing and looking around.
When he was about 13 years old his thyroid began to fail. He lost half of his weight and I thought he was going to die but the vet said I could try a thyroid pill. He lived almost another 5 years. I had to the hide the pill completely inside a soft treat or he would spit it out. We played that game for the rest of his life.
Finally he stopped taking it I couldn't force it down his throat if I tried but I knew he was saying enough. I had to have him put to sleep and I had him cremated. His remains are in my desk today.
About a month after he died I sat in my recliner and the blanket that is always there tipped over and touched my shoulder. I reached back to pet him and I said his name. I wept.
We moved to a new home a year ago and I finally gave my computer that good cleaning it needed. When I turned the keyboard upside down one of his long white whiskers fell onto the desk. I wept again.
Your dog will always be with you. Would his life have been as good with anyone else?
