Extreme SW VA, NE TN and Southern WV

Does anyone know of any swap meets or poultry auctions in the Bristol or Tri-Cities area? Also searching for a good source for Silkie chickens as well. We just moved to the area and have silkies and just ordered our laying hens from a hatchery. Thanks.

You might ask this on the East Tn thread. There are a few there that live in that area.

Well hello folks! Don't the Appalachian Mountains still run down that way?:) Anyone ever had a buyer call in response to an ad and say 'I've never had chickens before but I googled the kind you have for sale and think I'd like them!'? Yeah, a scritch of the head and hope they are actually listening to the breed care you are going into great detail about for their (or maybe just the chickens you are selling them!) benefit...gotta love it!

Richlands Va, here.

Just started out with 5 silkies.

Would love to have some polish frizzles, lavender orpington , cochin in future.
I recommend hitting up the Roanoke Swap
In June. Why June? Less demand for chicks and the weather is warmer and they are not as expensive to raise from chickdom because less heat. Those incubators & broody boxes, that is if you get hatching eggs and under heat lamps for Chicks, jacks up that electric bill. Getting chicks in June there is more of a selection, less people trampling on each other to get chicks, and less expenses in keeping the chicks warm. My personal opinion but I feel Chicks born in June grow faster and less Chick fatalities. Don't ask how it happens but it just seems that way to me year after year after year. It is a win win situation.

Thanks! I'll try to do that! Roanoke is a bit of a drive for me but after ordering eggs, and chiks, that may be the way to go.
Please check with your local TSC or other feed stores because most have chick days and allow chicken people to swap and sell in their parkinglot. Roanoke is quite the drive for me too. If you like you could private message me your location. I have a friend in Critz, another in Martinsville, and so on . Also if your near the coast of Va there's the Cane sisters and I have a good chicken friend near Maryland. Gee I could keep going. In NC I can recommend one of the absolute best. Then there is a wonderful place in South Carolina and gee Connecticut,... I could keep going.

As far as I know, and it is true within two hours drive of my farm in all directions that TSC is getting chicks in starting TODAY. Remember, the earlier you get there the more likely you will find what you need and also the hatcheries will constantly be bringing in more chicks for the next two + months. TSC chick days start today.
