I have just hatched some chicks that are a cross between Ameraucana (cockerel) and RIR hens. Does anyone have any advice on the genetics of this cross breed, egg production, broodiness, etc... Any information is greatly appreciated. I've searched the internet for information, but haven't been able to find anything.

Thanks!

It would be nice to see some pictures of mamma and daddy.... AND the chicks!

Do you know what particular type of Ameraucana or is it an Easter Egger?

RIR are known for laying but not for broodiness.

The same is true of some Ameraucanas.

I was told that the cross would most likely produce dark green egg layers. As far as colors go that would depend on the color of the parents. I think it would be fun to investigate this by trying it out, I just do not have the space.

I will try to get some picks posted this afternoon.

Thanks for the info! Check back later for the pics!

I have what I think is a cockerel who is the opposite, EE hen x RIR roo. He is just gorgeous. But has yellow legs, I also wonder about his genetics and if his offspring will have the green egg gene or brown.

They're cute!

I hatched faverolle/EE's and buff brahma/EE's a few weeks ago. The rooster was the EE. Most of them have green legs, but a couple have yellow legs. I'm also excited to see what color eggs they lay and how they look feathered out...

Next I am making cuckoo marans crosses. I have a marans roo and so far for some reason he only mates with my Polish and Crevecouers. What do you think those crosses will look like?

They sure look like ameraucana chicks!

I've been crossing Ameracaunas with Leghorns and BC Marans to try to make an improved EE. I am hopeful for a better array of egg colors
