Any one out there have experience with duck foot injuries?
I put my 6 ducks out on out pond for the first time 4 nights ago. Then I couldn't get them to come back in! They have been sleeping outside unprotected. ......Something seemed off with them today but I couldn't get close enough to check it out. Well they all of a sudden came back to the coop tonight. I was so surprised! Then I saw one of the runners is limping and can't keep up. Her foot is completely torn all the way up to the ankle. The torn parts of the web is gray and the toe is swollen. She is awfully calm when I hold her. She should be freaking out but isn't. Running a feaver? She is cleaning her feathers and took a drink. I brought her in and set her up in the basement. We rinsed the foot with soapy water and loaded it up with triple antibiotic ointment. I wonder if a predator grabbed her or if it was something else. Being attacked would certainly scare them back home though. I don't think the toe is broken. I'm really worried. It looks really bad. It looks cut up into her ankle. I don't think any vets around here see ducks. Not sure if they could do anything anyway. Anyone treated a serious foot injury? What did you do? Can a vet give ducks antibiotics? What will the gray tissue do? Its so raw. My poor baby.
