I have the option to get a red sex link roo. If I do get it and end up putting him with my red sex link hens, will I get red sex link chicks? Basicly my question is do they breed true. My 2nd question is what kind of chicks would I get if I bred my white ee roo with my br, slw, or red sex links? I'm woundring what the color combos would be and what they would look like. Thanks ~Bryan

No, Sex-links do not breed true as they are mix breeds themselves. If you were to cross them, you may get some offspring that look like the original parents that produced the sex-link cross.

A BR and RIR make either a black or red sex-link. Can't remember which roo it takes for a red star. I read it on Feathersite once.

So differnt kinds of breeds can make all the same red sex link? And if I bred sex links could I ever get a sex link type, or would I end up with like delwheres and new hamsphers?

You would not get Delawares and New Hampshires. Although Delawares were developed as hybrids, their coloring is the result of a sport rather than something that can be duplicated at will. New Hampshires were developed solely from Rhode Island Reds.

"Red Sexlink" is a generic term for a number of different crosses. To confuse things further, the same cross may be called by different names by different hatcheries.

More information can be found here.

It is hard telling what your chicks will look like by breeding sex links, they may actually look like the parents. BUT they will not be sex links you may end up with a male that has female coloring or the other way around. They will also loose some of the hybrid vigor and probably will not lay as well as the mother.
