How often do you let your chickens out of the run?

Once a day if I can. Usually 30 minutes to an hour before dusk. They generally come back to the coop on their own or with minimal coaxing.

We let our girls out for few hours about everyday if we are home and they are usually right at the door waiting it's funny. We have a shepard healer mix that likes to heard them so we have to watch him.

Mine are out all day everyday. Our BIGGEST threats are hawks and Golden eagles....so far, we have lost none in 1 1/2 years.

We have had a few VERY close calls but have managed to thwart the offenders off. Also....we are home a lot, have lots of areas for cover, have (too many

) roos around to call warnings and we have Geese. I EXPECT to eventually lose some but choose to free range. I think it is a personal choice. Good luck with whichever you decide

For two or three weeks I used to let my two-months old hens out of the coop (because I don't have run) from six o'clock in the morning to five-six o'clock in afternoon then a hen got missing (predator) so from now on I think I will keep my only one left locked in the coop the whole week and let her outside only once a week then if nothing happens I will let her free range out even more. I just started having hens so I am naive at this.

We rarely let ours out of the coop due to the number of predators we have in the neighborhood and the number of chickens lost. We've had so many die as a result of predators and I'm not a fan of introducing new birds to the flock. I work full time, so I don't have much time to let them out and then lock them back up. A few times a month I let them out 30 minutes before dusk and watch them the whole time. I feel bad about this and know they'd be happier free ranging, but we have two large coops and a big run, so they're not crowded.
