Newbie in Carson City, NV

I'm also in Carson City. I've found the Amerucana (American Araucana) is the most popular and most hearty. They are the "easter egg" chickens you refer to. I lost two last night to a predator and hence why I'm on the site today. I have a secure, hay filled, roosting/nesting coop, larger than a child's playhouse and have had them 4 years without incident. There have been small hawks (I have video) that attempted to get them but my hens are feisty (were feisty) and last night something got two of them, appearing to have drug them from the roost house. I'd set traps a few nights before thinking a cat I'd seen would come back also one trap was sprung but the bait intact. I have ponds and Koi which was my concern at that time. I've seen raccoon but never near here. I'm at a loss. In any event, be careful of neighbors and roosters. No one seems to mind chickens (egg production, saving at supermarket, healthier for you home grown eggs) but roosters seem to disturb even the lightest sleeper and one I'd had from egg-hood and raised in a shoe box, boot box, Rubbermaid tub to adulthood cockadoodledoo beautiful rooster (the chicken hawk tried to get when I got the video), disturbed my cat-loving next-door neighbor so he moved to Dayton or thereabouts. I hope he is doing well. Write if you want any information. I'm old as dirt and have raised every type chicken known to man, here in Nevada and in Arizona (desert). Good luck! My favorite but delicate to environmental and predatory longevity is the silky. I'd recently said "I wish I'd only had two chickens" and now I have two. Be careful what you wish for or energy you put into the ether air eh?
