How big should nesting boxes be?

The standard is 12" x 12" HOWEVER

I made mine about 14" x 14"

I also I made mine on the outside of the coop. It saved me lots of floor space inside and created a simple easy way of collecting eggs from the outside

Mine are also 10 x12X12
The advice about putting outside the coop is great. I wish I had done that and I think I will be making that revision. It would give them so much more room inside the coop.
