My heart goes out to all those in the Boston bombings. :(

I couldn't stop shaking when I heard. I found out while stopping in a restaurant today, that had the news on. My younger brother was in Boston running the marathon today, thank God he and his wife are ok. Took them a while to get back home -they closed the trains and bridges. But they are both home safe now.

Just put up some new feeders for my flock. Love them so far. Each holds ten pounds of feed, had a nice rolled lip, couple fins to keep them from flinging, and an adjustable feed level you can slide up and Dow to decide how much flow you want. They were baby pig feeders.

I have been looking at these. There were $7 ones on sale at Agway, but I never got the chance to go and look at them. Where did you find these?

You can? :D
When will you have one available?

I found a 75 watt bulb and stuck it in a desk lamp that I propped on top of the "brooder". We actually use an old guinea pig cage for our chicks.

They're in the living room right now. I just always assumed that they needed a heat lamp to keep warm until they were weeks old.
I have 10 wk old FBCM available now.

Let's forget about chicken math for a moment. I just did some egg math. 7 leghorns, 3 dozen eggs a week, 12 more hens of different breeds, 14 bantams (my luck not too many roos) 12 ducklings (sex to be determined) what the heck will I do with that many eggs

and I still want more chicks LOL.
I got about 30 eggs today. You hatch some, sell some eat some give some away...

No clue this is our first flock. I know when I pick up more chicks (after the Cornish Rocks are processed) I'll be looking more towards dual purpose for our meat birds. I don't mind the speed that the CRs will be processing ready, but the issues they can have makes me not want these again. I don't mind waiting if it means my animals don't suffer.
The colored broilers (red, black, rainbow rangers) have far less problems but grow a bit more slowly. Still really nice birds.

We have five 1 week olds at the moment and eight 2 year olds already in the coop. Would that chicken be able to integrate itself into the older flock?
They are not quite half grown so I would suggest getting at least 2 the same age (not necessarily both BCM since they are more expensive, but maybe another breed you have been wanting too) so they can buddy up & help protect each other or help divide the attentions of any aggressive hens.

Three weeks from today I'll know how many I get. 27 eggs in, I only need 3-5.

What breed? I am looking for BRs.

That's 5 hours away, but maybe if we can find someone in between to run a train for us. I'm sure there are others over that way who would like some of the birds I have for sale so if someone in between can play transport I'd pay them in chickens for helping

Anyone wanting to help out PM me or Rey & let us know. Rey, PM me & let me know what you want for them.

I don't know what to ask. I just know what a processed one in the grocery store goes for.

What a long way away you are... !

April / Mama4my4 - I think I have 22 of your babies hatched. I say I think because there are so many babies in my brooder, it's insanity in there. I believe I have nearly 40 chicks hatched right now. There are a few more pipped, zipping and even hatched in the 'bator. I had to open the 'bator up and unload the hatching tray because there was no room in there!

I'm already pushing the limit by adding one BCM

Are you hatching any more soonish, maybe?

I found them on Valley Vet Supply, They are actually baby pig feeders. Have only had them up for one day but noticing a huge differnce in the waste of feed compared to the hanging feeders i used to have up plus frees up so much more space in my coop/run area. Loving them so far. Going away this weekend so i will let you know how they hold up with the birds left to their own devices for 3 days with them:) Should go fine.

I know what I paid (in birds) for the pair of Toulouse that I have now (that the kid swore were a proven pair) & it was too much now that I know the gander isn't doing his job. PM me a general figure of what you're looking to get out of them & I'll tell you if it's at least close to my price range. Then maybe we can find a few birds from my brooders/grow-out pen that could cut at least part of that cost...LOL

I didn't hatch these but do have a few eggs in from another source. Not sure if they are BCM or FBCM until they hatch. Got them from my Bunny Buddy on the Easter swap ProfTi did.

I might have to get something like that for weekends I do swap meets. Birds would be stuck with dry feed instead of FF for the weekend but I'm sure they would manage.
