I figured you didn't, but that was for anyone who advocates medicated feed. ;)
The sick ones started after being brooded with a very messy, disgusting 3wk old duckling. I didn't realize they were sick when I moved them to the new brooder with the other chicks until the day after I did it. I had to build a new brooder to house the over 100 chicks I hatched in 2wks and I had to move the ducks around so house them better, too. I culled the first one I saw with the illness because I didn't want it to spread. I was to late. Chicks from my eggs and shipped eggs are getting sick.
I didn't get the other brooder cleaned yet, but everyone got Vicks under their wings and set in front of the humidifier with Oxine for 30secs each (then let the humidifier run over them for 20min). The outside brooder was cleaned and disinfected. We just didn't get to the inside one yet. I am not separating anyone since it seems like everyone has some variation of the illness and I don't want them in with the known healthy ones. The two older ones that started showing signs of this on Monday have been on the antibiotics for 4 days now and are much better. I believe this is a mold/fungus/bacteria based illness. The new brooder is not the cause, but it will be stripped and bleached.
I did wake up to a new issue. Vent picking. I sprayed all the light rumped chicks butts but they killed one Ameraucana and was working on 3 others. Any ideas? Is this a new symptom or are they just stressed over being ill?
I've lost 6 chicks in the last week so far.
