Missourians, Storm Reports?

We are fine here outside Mansfield, MO. Just lots of rain. I was outside this morning threading yarn over the run with cd's threaded on them in a light jacket as it was in the fifties. About 1 I heard the front come over and the wind turned very cold and it started to sprinkle...I worked on until I was soaked. I changed clothes, ate a salad and put on a hooded winter coat and returned to the run. I worked until 3:30 and then I was soaked again. Came in and changed and went back out and turned the poultry loose in the run. The guineas flew out immediately. So I found my weak spot. My dh and I worked in the rain after dark, when he got home from work, and fixed that spot. I will try them again tomorrow and see how it works. It isn't pretty but by george, the hawks won't be attacking now. I got this idea from Speckled Hen's coop photos. Thanks Cynthia!! If it works for me then I won't worry about my poultry all winter!

I sure hope it does work for you. We have alot of hawks and none have ever made a dive into my uncovered pens in two years we've had the chickens. There may be a time coming, but the CDs bounce and throw reflections all over and when there is no wind, the crisscrossed strings may hinder hawks, too. Glad you don't have any really terrible weather yet!

Where in Missour did you have to mail the eggs? Not all of Missouri was effected by the storms. I live about 15 - 20 miles east of St. Louis, Mo, just right across the Mississippi River. The ice storm has missed us again. Our weather was like Ozark Hens today in the 50's and drizzly, wet rain. I think west of St. Louis got hit. I know there are reports of Missouri & Illinois residents with power outages.

Sounds like they are using CD's threaded on top of their run to deflect the hawks.

Maybe Speckledhen or Ozark hen will come back and explain further.

Do you have a covered run?

We have had about 1 inch of ice. Branches are breaking and it is still raining. The roads are slushy but everything is ice covered otherwise...I am just outside Kansas City.

I have all my animals locked in a small barn and I miss them soooo much. I can't even look out the window to see them playing. We do have 10 show chickens in the garage. I have been out there playing with them half the day.

pinenot, what is your temp there now? I am worried about my grandson coming home in this. We are fine here but weatherbug says it is freezing rain in Maryville?? that is only about another 30 minutes north of you isn't it?
