What should I do? I want to be paid!

Some companies require a contractor to send in an invoice in order to be paid.
Send em an invoice! Just make on in a word document and email it to them and mail it.

Hey, I had the same problem when I worked for an independant contractor stocking cookies and crackers in the local stores!!

They did not pay me either, for 8 weeks. This is a BIG named company so it is not like they could not afford to pay me. I finally after numerous phone calls to the Parent Company told my direct boss I was no longer going to be working for him.

POOF! I got a check.
I worked until the check cleared and then quit.

This is not unusual at all. I have been in the grocery business for 27 years and have had lots of people in your situation. Typically the individual that is supposed to get you into the payroll system simply doesn't do their job. They call on multiple stores sometimes in many different states and its on their "to do" list.

From experience, the only way you will get paid and get paid quick is to go to the store you service and tell the manager that you will no longer be taking care of their store until you get paid. Do this the day you are supposed to work....so you know there will be outdated magazines and magazines that need to be stocked. The store will not tolerate lost sales and they will contact the company.... and believe me, you will get paid.

Federal - this is a civil matter, you can only sue

State - you have one of the best labor departments in the country (from the working persons prospective), call them and ask what you should do.

Lastly - most companies that use "Independence contractors" are not following federal guidelines. IF you dont receive any joy, you might do a little research and see if they are in violation. If they are the feds come in review their records , of all present and past employees and get them. When I was 17 I worked for such a company and when the feds finished their investigation, the company was presented a bill for 500,000 in back wages and taxes.
