My sizzles are fertile and the mature girls lay eggs. Confused as to where the misinformation is coming from?

Chuckle. Wow whoever told you that is .........well, dumb. I'm on sixth generation Sizzles. Without a hitch. I hatched 12, lost one to weather but have 11 healthy nifty, sixth generation babies running around in Smooth, Sizzle and Curly(Frazzle). And am mating the Frazzles to the smooth and the Silkies I hatched for the project this Spring. To improve type. Then moving on to a seventh generation next Fall. So umm no, they're not sterile. Like any other breed of chicken, they reproduce well and in truth, are great broody hens.

I have a couple of sizzles raising serama/sizzle mixed chicks right now - very cute. They demanded to be allowed to go broody, so I let them. It keeps them happy.

I came across this sizzle topic and I need help. I thought my silkies eggs were hers but when they hatched, out came 3 frizzle chicks. all are white and have no silkie traits at all. (the only rooster I have is a frizzle cochin) So now I am thinking that she took my black tailed japanese bantams eggs OR the white female frizzle laid eggs and she took them. I know you are not supposed to breed 2 frizzles together but I wasn't aware that she was laying eggs at all. So how do I tell if I have frazzles? They look okay to me and are in the ugly awkward stage right now (12 weeks old). Would they be able to lay eggs and will they carry the frizzle gene and be able to frizzle other chicks or will they be called frazzles and pass that trait on to other chicks. Gosh so confusing and sorry if it sounds like I am rambling. I would appreciate and advice from the BYC experts!

Frazzles lay and reproduce fine if they're generally healthy, some are, some aren't. They're usually super curly, slow to feather and brittle feathered. This current group of mine are much younger than yours but most of the frazzles are strong birds despite it. One is a tad weaker and smaller but has nice features. I had to breed sizzle to sizzle so I got sizzles, smooth and frazzles. Frazzles bred to smooth or sizzle will produce Sizzles in the case of a smooth and Sizzles and Frazzles in the case of a Sizzle.

If you got primarily cochin features it won't hurt to go with a generation of silkie blood down the line to improve type. Though one of my Sizzle hens had a black face but single comb, all the chicks bred now have walnut combs, so I'm one generation better for it. If frazzle is what you have to work with and it's a good bird otherwise, nothing wrong with using it and everything to gain. The roo was a Splash Sizzle, fifth gen. and the hens were fifth generation, Blue and Black. I got all blues and splashes but got smooth, sizzle and frazzle, which is half the fun of working with them really.

If you bred frizzle to frizzle, half the progeny would be frizzled, a quarter would be curley and a quarter would be non-frizzled. Now that assumes that the numbers fall out evenly--with large numbers of hatchlings, the percentages are pretty accurate; with small numbers they can be very inaccurate.
