Arizona Chickens - Page 2482

I get my chicks at B&B Feeds on Ironwood Rd. If you take the exit off the Superstition it will be on your left the block before before Main (Apache Trail). You need to call there first to be sure they have chicks. I have never had any problem with any of those I'd gotten (9 from there and counting). They also have an assortment to choose from. They charge $3 each. I suggest you take a small cardboard box with a little bedding in it and buying 2 rather than just the 1. They don't sex the chicks, but out of my 9, I have only gotten 1 (possibly 2) roosters. They are very nice in there and are more farm oriented than the feed store on Idaho, which is more canine oriented. I have never gotten chicks from them, but they also have them sometimes and ducks I hear too! They also just opened a new store "Shoppers" I believe it is called on the trail and Meridian? Where Safeway and Kentucky Fried Chicken (sorry about that) are. I find them to be expensive (feed and tools). When I was in there they also had chicks for sale for like $2 a piece, if I remember correctly. I have never bought any there so I can't attest to their health! They also probably don't have chicks all the time, they just had them in a cardboard box.

Freedom Rangers are a type of meat bird. They are slower growing than cornish crosses, but better foragers.

If you want some Aloha project birds, you can contact myself or Sommer (alohachickens).

Can/will chickens eat centipedes?

My family consists of 1 DH, who is more tolerant than anyone should be; 5 children, ages 7 and under and one due any day now; 3 totally annoying dogs, and 12 chickens!

Puffycheeks! Just realized who you were!  We have some of those Aloha's here. They belong to Denise but we have no rooster. They are cool hens.

To PM folks just put your pointer on the name and a list will come down and choose PM.

How is the turkey eggs coming along. Is your turkey still sitting tight? Do you think the eggs are from both turkey hens? I just can't wait! Some we had in Wittmann last night! Some thunder and rain also. Hate storms at night! Guess that is from my living all my life in Omaha, Ne. Those dang tornado's love to show up at night!hide.gif

My bator is now almost full with turkey and duck eggs.  On the third, I'll finish it off with chicken eggs.  The "brooder house"  (AKA guest bathroom) is hopefully going to be peeping!

Gratuitous chick pics.   Here is mama Puddin' bringing them out of the nest box for the first time today.  Smiles-N-Sunshine, I hatched Puddin' from the eggs I got from you last spring!  These eggs that SherrieT got from her friend were described as being from two roos (EE and Egyptian Fayoumis) over and EE's, Polish, Aracana, Lakenvelder, Blue Andalusion and Phoenix hens.   Unfortunately, none of the white eggs developed, so we'll miss out on some of the surprise mixes.
