We have just started our first laying flock. My husband has been talking about starting a meat flock next year and I really don't want the hassle of processing them ourselves. Can anyone recommend a processor in our area? I have searched the internet and only came up with one. Miller's in Fowlerville. If anyone has a review of their operation, I would appreciate that too! Thanks!!!

This may be on no use to you, depending on how far away you are. But there's one in Brown City...actually, they're 10 miles north of Imlay City just off of M53/Van Dyke. Wilcox Poultry is their name. But they may be too far from you.

How many are you thinking about doing? I may be able to help you out. I don't have a health inspected facility but I am a microbiologist so I keep things neat and clean.

I don't know if this will help, but I found this document when searching for myself

www.ssawg.org/documents/temppoultryprocessor.doc

It lists the 2 below, which did not help me since I am looking for a processor in the Muskegon, WHitehall, Montague, Rothbury, Shelby, Hart, Fremont area!

I know this is too far of a drive from you, but just letting the other SE Michigan people know that there's a processor in Riga, MI.
Kastel Slaughter House
8927 Tagsold Highway
Riga, MI 49276-9751

I have taken birds there and plan to take some of this years, seeing as I don't have a plucker yet. I was happy with the service but I warn you that the place does not look like much, its a family run business on the farm, not some fancy brand new building. My birds were clean and they put them in the freezer for me after processing so they could make the drive home without a big cooler.

I think they charged $2.25 a chicken, they even process ducks. I will update with a current price if I'm not correct. I'm taking my CornishX at the end of May or first week of June.
