In many of the pictures, the colouring or clothing that the animal is wearing is a sign that it is sacred, or very valuable to the owner. In other cases it is for identification purposes, trying to work out which sheep belongs to which farmer for instance. For others still it is just for festivals.

The various pictures of elephants which are highly decorated are just for festivals - in ordinary day to day life they will not be painted - I've been to India twice, and have seen the temple elephants, and elephants used like cart horses. None of them have been decorated.

The oxen who have their horns painted are not in any pain or discomfort - it's like us painting our nails in a way.

I also know that many people here go and buy clothes to dress their dog up in (parka coats for a dog!?!?! ) and whilst I think it's a waste of time / money, it's not cruel.

Not a personal attack or anything, I just think that you have to look past the colours and cloth and see that it actually isn't causing the animal pain or distress.

That why I say some pics. I think its a waste of money to buy clothes for dogs to (unless you shaved them bald) LOL. I thought the sheep one was kinda cruel but I get what you mean.

How can you tell that the animals in the pics are depressed? I've seen the baby chicks, ducks, and rabbits that were colored for Easter, and they didn't seem depressed to me. Do you think it's cruel to dye the animals?

I think it is cruel to be honest. They should have the animals for the colors they are born with.

would you buy an animal that looks like it was thrown in a washer with different colored clothes or would you buy the animal for natural colors?

also where do you think those animals go after the color has worn off? hmmm... and no I am not talking about responsible people I am talking about buying it just for an easter suprise for a kid

I agree with V Chick. I don't think there is anything wrong in coloring, painting, dressing up an animal as long as...

1. It is not toxic to the animal.

2. Does not cause the animal any pain or discomfort.

They have dress-up categories in horse shows. I've seen poodles dyed pink and for goodness sakes those pigeons on the "Save-a-chick" thread are not being abused, neglected and hurt in any way, they are the guys pets. When I showed working steers, I used to put caps on my oxen's horns and shine up their horns and hooves with a little oil. They looked spectacular and wasn't causing them a bit of harm.

I am trying to prove a point though. I bet I would be yelled at if I where to sell a blue bunny to a family for eater and then after a week the dye wears off I get it back. People buy it for the kid. forget it I will talk to a mod to lock this.

I have an old sweater for my dog since we shaved him. I also want to get one for my dog Jordin just to look cute.
