Get off my porch!

You know I started searching the internet today with the same question and all of the situations and suggestions really resonate with what has happened to my small flock mentioned in this forum.. My ducks started inhabiting my concrete patio about a week ago and now that I think about it... There is a bowl of cat food there, so I'm going to pick that up for sure. Also I remember a dog got into my yard and even went into their pen and scared them half to death. THAT was the first time they came to the patio and have been coming there every day to rest and sleep. My gate was left open and since then has been closed so no more dog incidents. I also bought a small picket fence, I'd say about a foot tall today, spend a bit of money on that and spent a lot of sweat setting it up and blocking them from getting in - so i thought- after I had it all blocked in, I look out the window and there they are back at the SAME PLACE. They jump and hop over it!
I'm going to have to hose everything down every night as part of my regimen until I can resolve this.
I have to wash down our walkway every evening, I guess since I've been doing it 10yrs it's just not hard anymore. A water fowl owners best friend besides hardware cloth is a hose.

Welcome to BYC ps they go to what's closest to you for safety.

I live on a farm with a large lake, a ways in back and a major river in front. Wild fowl nest around in the cattails or on muskrat houses, and my sister-in-law, across the lake, always kept her own tame ducks and geese.-I thought they were really nice (I have chickens, in their own fenced yard--do not want ducks with the chickensI) ALWAYS WANTED some! She said, if you do get some, they will either be at your back steps and walkway--or run away along the river!!! She hosed her porch steps and walk almost daily!

I never got ducks or geese!

They are not for everyone.

I live in south Texas and the heat has really been up there the past few months. My ducks are normally yard dwellers but since the heat has risen they have taken to the back patio (covered) during the day. Since it's covered the concrete stays cool... I expect they will migrate back to the yard in another month or so. We have to hose the patio off every night but it's not too bad - my plants & garden look better than ever bc I have to turn on the hose and then I remember to water. Lol

Mine have been sitting at the back door. They apparently love the mint and the potting soil. I have to hose off the patio whenever we go out but that is because my kids have a fit if there is once piece of poop anywhere around them. Mine is also covered and stays pretty cool. Oh and I have a big bowl of water out for them right there too.

Well my little picket fence around my patio has worked after all, I guess they feel like it's a hassle to jump over-in and out of the patio so they've given up. My porch is now poop free :) yay!
