Medicine for geese

I would think that most medications that are used for poultry would be safe with geese as well. Some prescription drugs such as Baytril (antibiotic) and Metacam (pain killer) are safe for geese. I used Metacam for my older goose that has arthritis and I have used Baytril many times on my poultry (ducks, chickens, etc.) For dewormers and other medications that are purchased over-the-counter, just be sure they state "poultry".
As far as having things on hand, I keep povidone iodine, neosporin (without pain killer), gauze, epsom salt, polyvisol (without iron). Hope this was helpful.
 
Cornstarch on a wound will lessen/stop bleeding.

You can get the tablets of it at a healthfood store or drug store, OR , you can use the aquarium variety. It all crushes into a fine powder, and is soluble in water.

You need this in case the little buggers eat something poisonous. Humans are given it in emergency rooms for the same reason. It won't hurt your goose to give it if you aren't sure yet what's wrong.

Blue Kote is an antiseptic topical you find in feedstores. It coats wounds with a VERY STAINING blue stain, and covers up redness so no one pecks at it.
 
Active bleeding should have gauze pressed to the wound and active pressure to stop the bleeding. Just putting corn starch on won't stop all bleeding.

Baby food dry oatmeal (great food source for new hatchlings and injured sick adults)
Iodine

Poly vi sol without iron
Grow gel

Water soluble probiotics and antibiotics

Hello Chickensoiux. I have an older goose, Francie, and the vet prescribed metacam for her arthritis, She only gave her a weeks worth and said she really isn't into drugs for our old geese, since it's hard on the kidneys. Also, to spread out the doses once she feels better. How long did you use metacam for your goose, and, if for a longer period, did it require you to have bloodwork done? It seems to be making her feel much better, but I'm thinking I will try to start her on something more natural like gloucosamine/chondroitin and/or traumeel once she's "over the hump" with discomfort.
Thanks for any info.
 
Keep handy some iodine soap, vitamin C powder, and sulphur. Wash wounds with the iodine soap, and sprinkle sulphur on your geese if they have lice or maggots. The vitamin C is helpful for pretty
much all diseases.
