I have an approx 3ft x2ft wire crate that is a great height for geese, but is very large. Especially if I only need it for one or two geese ... too much sliding around. I also have a smaller crate I use for ducks that would hold a goose, but it would have to stick its head through the wire top and I can imagine sudden stop decapitation. Same for poultry supplier turkey crates -- they look like they have a head hole.

What have you used for your geese? A smaller crate on its side for height? A plastic dog or wire crate with a cover that forces them to duck all the time? Cardboard box you keep handy and tape up in an emergency?

I have transported chickens, so the same principles apply to geese and any poultry with my solution. Place an abundance of old bath towel on the floor of the crate to avoid the slipping and sliding with motion of transit. This absorbs the wettest poop and keeps mess to a minimum.

To avoid stress and panic from seeing the world go by at such unaccustomed speeds, secure old bed sheets over and around the exterior of the crates. This will still permit ventilation but will reduce the size of their experienced world, thereby reducing stress and the danger of trusting necks through any openings.

If the transit is prolonged, food and water can be provided by mixing up a wet mash, thus avoiding water spills.

Cost: zero

Putting a good layer of straw at the bottom of the crate could reduce sliding. I have transported large Peking ducks that way and they seemed to do fine.

Im going to try building something like this this winter. I use large plastic 2 door carriers only 4 will fit in the back of the pickup Picture is borrowed from a facebook page

I usually use large dog travel crates with some towels. You can fit 2 or 3 in one big enough for a golden retriever, though two is more comfortable.

When I was under a fire evacuation a few years ago I didn’t have enough cages so I had 9 of my geese in the back of the Tahoe on a comforter.

@Goosebaby I hear that. One time, we went to retrieve two pairs of dewlaps that I raised and sold as yearlings, only to purchase back a few months later. With gas prices so high and the distance, we took our honda accord and put a blanket over the back seat. They were perfectly calm the whole ride home, chatting away and nibbling on my hair.
They seem to prefer riding like that rather than being in the crate.
