I have pullet showing signs of Coryza. She has the awful smelling discharge from her nostrils (thankfully she doesnt show any other signs yet) . Those are the only symptoms she shows. I am gonna put teramycin in their water this morning, and pick up some galamycin as soon as possible. Are there any vets you guys know if I could talk to about this?

Call your local extension office and they should be able to put you in touch with a vet to help.

I went through that 2 years ago and documented everything in this thread if you are interested. There are dosages, names of medications, and step by step instructions too. It's a long thread and for that, I will apologize ahead of time but you will find all of the info. that you need there.

And I saw mention somewhere that someone talked about putting the birds on medicated feeds. What would that be?
 
I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you. It has been a busy last couple of days and I've just now thought to look this thread back up to see what you have decided to do.

The local extension office would be your local 4-H office. The phone number in our local phone book is found in the county section listed under extension office. Tell them the symptoms that your birds are having, what you think it is, and ask them who you need to contact. If you can avoid the state vet that would be best as their number one choice is to cull your entire flock and start over. You are trying to find someone to help you, not tell you to cull.

I spoke with a fellow that is local that has had birds for a long time. I got sulmet in the water of my birds (none of the others are showing any symptoms, just the one pullet) and I have given her a couple shots of an oxytetracycline. If she pulls out good deal, she seems to be improving. She still hasnt shown any other signs other than drainage and the smell. I think it will be ok, but I will keep all my birds on the sulmet for a few more days. Thanks for all the replies

This is the hardest thing for people to grasp, the fact of them being carriers even when you think they have recovered. Most long time chicken keepers will not treat anything like Coryza because of the fact that it stays with them and they can shed the disease to other birds. If you do treat, you need to be aware that they are most likely carriers and if you sell/give them to anyone else, that bird could decimate the new flock. Always best to know the facts, harsh as they can sometimes be.
