Very Wobbly Chicken....can't stand up!!

Hi I am also a first time poster. I have exactly the same problem with my hen Maisie. She is a 4-5 year old ex-battery hen.She was under the weather so I brought her into the kitchen. Then she got worse and stopped eating. Cant say exactly what was wrong just I knew something was. She went to the vet who gave me antibiotics since she has pnuemonia. Rest of flock is fine so fingers crossed there. She was very bad to start with and vet said either would die or show improvment in 2 days. After 2 days - end of the day she began eating. We have syringed water and yoghurt drink into her until then and on second day managed to get some defrosted peas down her as well. So now she is eating but she is unable to walk/stand. Lies on side and uses wings to get to food. She is on baytrill antibiotics. I will try to give Bvits having read these posting and to be honest it has given me hope. I was assuming besides the pneumonia she must have had a stroke. Has anyone any knowledge of pneumonia please and how she is affected? Is she likely to regain her ability to walk? I hope so.

I started a new thread with no response so maybe I can get some help here.

A week or two ago I had a RIR hen (that is now 12 weeks old) start acting crazy running around and falling over. She eventually came out of it and acted fine. Yesterday, she started it up again and this time ended up on her back breathing very heavy. I though it might be the heat so I misted her down. She snapped out if it about 10-15 minutes later.

Any ideas about what's going on?

Update on the last post. Maisey did get over the pneumonia. She was paralysed in her legs or at least could not walk but could stand up. Rather than give up on her I massaged her legs daily and took her outside. I put peas in front of her just out of reach. She started to reach for them and eventually walked. She never returned to the flock but lived with a second old lady hen. Together they continued for several months and she was well enough to eat my lettuces and to wreck my flower beds so in the end it was worth it. Eventually she died aged about 5.
So 9 months later no other hens have gone down with pneumonia.

It sounds like some kind of fit. Never had a hen do this but we did have a cockateil who had fits. She got to 13 then had a massive one and had to be put to sleep. Sounds like all you can do is wait and see what happens. Maybe someone else will be able to advise you better.
Wishing you well
Brax

my chick I just talked about is right here with me in my hand...dying. it has the same simptoms as yours and he has the newcastle disease. it is a very slow, horrible disease, careful because is very contagious too. if it is not to advanced you can give him vitamin in his water, garlic in his water and a lot of heat. good luck with your chick, I hope you are not as late as I was...

I only just read this post b/c I was searching for information on my own chicken. I know of a source for Vit. B. and antibiotics if you still need that information.

If she got pecked hard on the back of head/neck that would cause it too, had a hen that got attacked by a flock of magpies so bad it caused permanet nuerological and had to euthanize her it was so bad.
Do you have a rooster getting maybe a little rough?
Where was she on the pecking order? My hens get into scuffles sometimes when they wanna move up

Had a meat hen that we called calamity Jane, she was always knocking her self silly every time she'd stand up after resting under the laying boxes.

Not sure if chickens have them but could it be a seizure?
Dehydration with this heat?
