best price on chicks

I just butchered 100 Cornish X from Schlecht. They were 9 weeks old and dressed weights were 5.5 pounds for the hens and 6.5 for the males. They free ranged the entire time and I had ZERO leg or heart problems. They actually outperformed the Freedom Rangers on pasture. That is saying a lot for a Cornish X!

Schlecht is great to work with as they are just a mom and pop type hatchery, which is why their prices are right.

I also wanted to add about Schlecht that the reason I went with them was because the inspector for the USDA said that, in her opinion, they had the best Cornish crosses she had seen.

Why are they so cheap?

Why are the other hatcheries so high ?

I think they kinda have to be to support their high tech equiptment and such. The hatcheries do have specials too though. Like meyers...They had a special on female CX's at 15% off for people who are on their email lists and that when I jumped at my chance-25 Cx's for less than 40$ and that included shipping. I think you really need to watch the hatcheries and teh specials they have weekly..

Good people... I use them for all my broilers. I agree, some of the best around. Etta runs the show by herself with a few helpers...

Lower overhead... lower prices.

I ordered a small batch of 50 cx cockerals from Sun Ray Hatchery here in Iowa they should be here on Thuresday and they were $61 with shipping,my last batch was from Schlech and they were only $2 {$63} more with shipping for 50 cockeral cx.

This is an old thread but I wanted to note that I will be buying my CX's from Schletch Hatchery this January. Great reviews and I like to support a mom/pop business The price is $1.25 cockerels and .$1.05 pullets with $21 shipping to Louisiana. I'm also going to make up the 25 minimum with some Golden Comets at $2.05. I had 6 but made the mistake of selling them when I bought other birds and they are NOT laying in winter. So I'm buying eggs.

Etta owns the hatchery and runs it with a few helpers. She had a disaster last year when predators broke in and wiped out half of her stock. Hope she has been able to rebuild for the new season.
