Supplemental light for winter laying

Basically, any light will help with winter laying, but, it's a bit late to be doing that now. The increasing hours of day light that we are seeing will have your flock laying at peak shortly. Doesn't halogen put out a lot of heat, and isn't it an energy hog? You might want to look at a more economic source of light, if indeed you add any light at all.

My hens have have been laying almost every day throughout the winter with no artificial lights or egg-layer mash. The hens range from 8 months to 6-7 years. 2 BO, 3 RIR, 3 Isa browns, a mixed bantam, and a white silkie.
