One of my Sebastopol geese has taken over an empty water collection barrel as a nest. She pulled hay into it from a tent where we store their hay and made herself a nice comfy house. LOL I was counting the other day and couldn't find her. So I went into their pen, (which is actually 3 pens in one and decided to see where she was. And she was inside this barrel. She's sitting on 5 eggs in there.

Today I went out and took her picture.

I don't know if her eggs are even fertile. She's one of this year's hatchlings and I haven't seen any of my ganders mating with her. She and one of the other females are both laying although my other female shows no interest in sitting. (My dogs enjoyed her eggs for breakfast this morning. LOL) In a few days I'm going to crawl into her barrel and candle the eggs. If they're fertile, we'll move her and her barrel into our heated mini barn where she can continue to be broody and hatch them.

We have several of these barrels around to collect rain water for our gardens. This one was emptied and the wind knocked it over. Minxy took that opportunity to make her own nest in it. I guess she didn't like the ones that we set up for them.

This barrel is out in the open daytime run and I really don't like that its there. Our Great Pyrenees, Lady, has been sleeping out there with her in the daytime run. Lady has a heated doghouse that we moved into the daytime goose run so she can protect Minxy. She's about 50 feet from Minxy's barrel. This daytime run only has a 4 ft high fence, it has no overhead covering so basically Minxy would be in danger in there at night.

Last night I look out the window and Lady's out of her dog house and laying directly in front of Minxy's barrel as if to block the wind from getting inside. I tried to take some pictures but from where I was, I just couldn't get a good shot of it. She's such a good dog!!
