Our local garden store got their chicks from Privett hatchery (which I had never heard of...)

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them... especially concerning the health of the chicks, and the accuracy of the sexing...

I am considering picking up 2 chicks from them, and I would really hate to lose one to sickness or need to re-home a roo....

Thanks for your replys.

My local feed store buys their birds from there. They are located in Portales NM, I'm not sure why they order from so far away. I have ordered SL wyandottes and d'Uccle eggs from them. My wyandottes are beautiful and healty but I had problems with the d'Uccles. I had a poor hatch and those which did didn't do too well, but hose problems were likely caused by my tempermental incubator. The company seems to be very friendly and easy to work with. As far as sexing goes I'm not sure because bought straight run. Some family members bought 50 sexed pullets and ended up with about eight roos if I due remember correctly.

I'll let you know in about a week. I'll be going there for some pullets then. They seem to know what they are doing, but, I'm just beginer & don't know squat about this new hobby I'm trying.

I recieved 50 meat chicks in the mail 2 weeks ago Wednesday. They went from New Mexico to the far NE of Washington state. They shipped that day and got here on time. I recieved 2 extras and 1 died the first night. The rest are doing great!

Here's a link I found with some reviews about Privett.

Not sure about how good Privett is by these but I will still go there next week. I'm not getting my birds for show, just the meat & eggs. Now if we could just get them yo lay potatos also. LOL!!

The feed store I work at is getting our chicks from them. So far so good. We have very few casualties if any when they arrive. Only one real bad shipment concerning a couple of turkeys that came in bad shape, but they reshipped.
This is my first year working there durring "chick" season

the other employees are happy with them.

Just got my Fast Cornish chics from them yesterday. Actually from the feed store who got them from Privett. All 15 are healthy & in good shape so far.

I mucked around with feedstore 1 and kept getting roos, that store did not use a name brand hatchery, just a cheap one. my SW was wild, my aracona just an easter egger. and all roos. my new buff chicks , 2 of 4 boys........
went to store 2, and they use privetts, chicken manager said he liked them , they know a lot, his stock is sound and tame, and correctly sexed. said websites not flashy as some, but quality is great.
wish I had shopped there first.

learned a lesson, know the hatchery before you buy!!!!
three new chicks tonight! will keep you posted on health, look under my post on raising chicks ....

cheers

My girls are from Privett (via the local feed store). All girls, as they are supposed to be. All very healthy & the buff orps are extremely friendly. I'm very happy and plan to piggy back a small number on their store order next year.
