I have 2 collies and a jrt and I like to scramble up a raw egg with a little water to top dress their dry kibble. Is 2 eggs per day between the 3 dogs ok, not too much?

I was feeding my nonsense/bichon 11 yr old an egg a day over her mixture of dry and moist food. Then I read someplace (think it was in one of Gail Damerow's books) that there is something in the egg that doesn't allow something in the dogs digestion to occur but it is fine if you cook the eggs. So now I mix it all together and nook it so she basically has a dog food omlet.
I'll try to find what I read and repost it here. I don't think a raw egg now and then will hurt at all but since I am giving her one a day and she is older I was going to cook it.

I give mine 2 eggs a day, each! I feed them raw, over the dry dogfood and have never seen a problem. I would be interested in the information on raw vs cooked though...

Egg whites (raw) have a substance in them that interferes with biotin uptake. However, egg yolks have a lot of biotin in them, far more than a dog needs, so the effect is largely negated if you feed whole raw eggs. If you cook the egg prior to feeding it destroys the substance in the egg whites that interferes. Two scrambled eggs split between three dogs isn't going to have any ill effect on the dogs whatsoever. My vet always recommends eggs to people who need to supplement their dog's food for one reason or another because they are a great source of protein. Don't get me wrong, she doesn't believe in feeding "people food" to dogs, but she does realize that a dog reaches a point in their life (typically the end) when they get to eat whatever they want because offering only dog food to a dog that won't eat and is debilitated is a great way to starve a sick animal.

Good info. Thanks! I had been cooking up a sort of stew for them to put on their dry food but using the eggs is a lot easier and cheaper.
My 4 house dogs sometimes get 15 to 20 eggs at a time. Usually boiled but sometimes raw... Once every week or 2. They seem fine.
Hmmm.. Lets go ask my egg thieving dogs how many is ok?

I think I was tossing 5 eggs a day per dog out of what was questionable for humans (too dirty, or possibly not picked up in time). I just give them the eggs in the shell raw. The dogs love to chew them open and lick up the egg. Generally this is done outside so I don't have to wash my floor and sweep up egg shell bits but every now and then my egg loving dog would make off with a few extras from the bucket before they were sorted.
Raw eggs fed daily can lead to a biotin deficiency. You might see skin conditions, dry hair, less shiny coat etc.
I feed raw eggs up to a few times a week, if I'm going to feed more than that, then I cook the eggs for them.
