Merging young flock with old

My 4 yearlings have been kicked out of their stall but don't mind having the rest of the barn to run around in. The 8 week olds have it now, after a thorough cleaning. I'm waiting until we're out of starter/grower before opening the coop to the barn. That way the big girls can't eat it and the little (younguns) have a chance to get used to the new home.

Flitter,

That is awsome that you succeeded with giving baby chicks to brooding hen. I thought about doing it because it seems so natural. One more piece of knowledge in the mental bank. BRAVO.

Did you do it when the Dom was aware, or slipped the babies in at night?

Things have been status quo for a while. Only recently, the three flocks are coming for treats together. It used to be the dominant flock would chase away others. The young chicks are now 14 to 15 weeks old and are nearly the size of the layers. They still free range in separate groups.

The birds all prefer the layer pallets, even the bantams, so I am trying to finish off the starter crumbles now.
