My husband and son went to the store for me to get layer and chick feed. My grandson was in the cart and removed the tags from the bags and now we cant tell which is the chick food. Will it harm the chicks to eat layer food.

Layer feed won't harm them, but it's not good for them because it has too much calcium, which can cause developmental problems for young, growing chicks. Are you sure you can't tell? Is there anything printed on the bag, because the protein amounts would be higher for the chick food, while the calcium would be higher for the layer food.......

Hope you figure it out. I would go to the feed store, I think, and buy another bag of chick food if I didn't figure it out, but if you don't, I don't think they'll become ill or anything.......

Read the bag ingredients if it has them - the layer feed will have calcium. The calcium is not good for chicks - and the protein levels aren't right either which will cause growth problems.

If you can't tell by reading ingredients etc (i.e. just plain brown bags of bulk feed) - then I would suggest just mixing the two together and feeding to your layer hens and getting a new bag of chick feed for your little ones.

All the information is printed on the tag that got ripped off. I probably will buy another bag just because I want them to be healthy. This is the first time I've ever hatched from an incubator and it was quite the experience.

LOL, a bit of a crazy idea.... but I'd try it. Can you match the torn tag ends with the pieces left in the bag seam?
