Has anyone came out to your house and checked if you follow the guidlines?

Trying to decide if bending some rules is worth the risk of someone coming out!

In the middle of building a coop with the 6ft tall frame up and read that 6ft is the tallest it can be and I need a roof! DUH! Wish I would have saw that before I started!

Check your zoning code for storage buildings, play houses, etc. Is it a city or HOA rule? (Some HOAs do not allow storage buildings that would be visible over the top of a fence). If the 6' height is all that you are worried about, can you recess it into the ground by a foot or so?

I'm legal...sortof... I am supposted to limit my pets to 5 and I have an extra one. I really don't think that your neighbors will investigate the rules and guidelines enough (or that the enforcers will either) to know your coop and height limitations... I bet on my neighbors not looking over the fence (every single neighbor who shares a wall or a corner of a wall keeps their sheds against our shared walls so looking over would be an effort for three of them- and they would have to observe the birds for a while to come up with the correct number from any other trajectories. I would say keep it inconspicuous, plant a vine or something and let it grow on top of the roof once it is done if it is unatractive... if it is taseful, I doubt anybody would care anough to investigate the specific rules. Just because you know the constraints doesn't mean anybody else would, or would put in the effort to find out.

You'll be fine, and in a few years you will have forgotten to be paranoid about such things-unless you have one of those neighbors...but thats where being really nice and giving holiday gifts to your neighbors comes in...

Animal control came when one of my neighbors called. They looked at my coop (from about 100 ft away, I think chickens scared them a lil lol), asked me how many chickens I had, and said I was fine as long as they were fenced in.
