Home made live trap,,pics

My post #11 about using eggs as bait will solve your problem. I`ve caught everything with eggs except bobcats. Had to use a dead chicken to catch the bobcat. Your thought about using smelly baits to attract predators that would normaly not come in is unfounded. If they are hungry, they will smell chickens, ducks, etc. and come for them. The bait may waylay their first attempts at your birds. All you guys empress me with your enjinuity in building your traps. I spent $200 on a big one with a bait compartment in one end. Had it for 9 years and figure it`s the best $200 I`ve ever spent, but I like what ya`ll have done. Good luck to ya........Pop

some of the traps shown don't seem to have a floor. Couldn't the captive animal just dig his way out? Would this also make it easier to tip over and get free?

Just wondering.

So,,,you just take a egg and put it in the trap. Not hard boiled and I'm assuming not broke either. That is going from one extreme to the other.. really smelly bait like tuna,,,,, to an egg,,,,,,don't seem a egg has much smell at all until it goes bad. I will definitely give it a go.

As far as traps,,,,making them out of wood,,the style I have made,,will not last for years. The board track for door starts to warp after awhile if left out. and might need to change the rat trap from weather too. All can be fixed fairly easy but does take some maintenance. On the good side ,,it will last for a year or two without a problem and the cost to build is very small.

One problem that could come up, ya gotta check the trap on a daily basis. Trapped animals tend to chew and wood is in danger of losing it`s viability if left for more than a day. That shouldn`t be a concern if the trap is where it can be easily seen........Pop

Love it.... I've had a predator take 10 ducklings and 4 goslings in one go, 2 full grown geese in one go and a chicken and two guineafowl..... needless to say I am incredibly p*ssed at this situation and have been sat up all night for the last ten days only to have the bloody thing take a guinea in the daytime....snares are set, reinforced accomodation built but I am determined to get the beast... looking at your trap has given me some ideas, THANKS!

One question, did you catch anyting with this trap?

There is a hole drilled in the rat trap. Right under the devise that makes it go off. I have a string tied to that metal devise that is attached  to the board at the bottom of cage.  When you push down on the board ,,the rat trap goes off.. and hits the coat hanger holding the door.

I really like your trap and I will definitely keep your instructions for making it! If I didn't already have metal/wire live traps I would make some like yours. When I was about 10-12 years old my mom drew me out some plans and I made a live trap. The problem was that it was made from all wood. lol Needless to say the wood got wet and swelled up to where the door wouldn't work. lol Then a tractor ran over it and flattened it. LOL But it was fun building it. I have always loved building things. You plans look really good and I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. Good luck to you! :)
