Well since this is where we are "talking" I just gotta tell ya maybe my year has started off kinda wierd. # 1. I have been in the hospital since Friday due to heart trouble/chest PAIN

my ARCH nemesis! 2.I had a batch of babies go into lockdown this morning..where was I?? in the hospital still!

until late this evening and then wasn't even sure that I would get to leave then!

3.So Deborah put the babies into lockdown.All she really couldnt do was candle.But moved them all to the hatcher got humidity up and all looks good. She did great!
4. THEN I get home and we decided to candle some more eggs from hot2pot
due to hatch jan 15th...today is day 7 ish for them...I was sick...I removed 12 out of 48 eggs! ALL candled clear OR 1.had bloodring,1 had blood SPOTS.So fter we candled I put each one in its own baggie and cracked it...well good news is there were no sacrifices I was right on all 12 ( a personal fear) 3 were clear /Addeled scrambled couldnt check fertility,these were All polish eggs and all others are develping nicely with live chicks so far so I think po scrambled em?

then lost both white silkie eggs!

then lost the only LS/B egg 1b/b/s silkie egg all other of those look great too! so lost a total of 3 polish,7

silkie eggs out of 14! the LS/B and one more dont remember what kind. So that made me sad

The good news? 36 look good so far! one more might not make it past day 10 candling..
more bad news? My maran eggs we GOT LOCALLY look worse upon candling than any of our shipped eggs! overall. SO will always buy shipped ones! ALL the air cells on the silkies looked real bad before i opened them AND when i opened several I swear they poured out SCRAMBLED!

Those eggs took a while to get here over chistmas POing. Darn po hockey i guess.
Does anyone think silkie eggs are more fragile? We want MANY MORE! we have five more precious B/B/S silkie ones left SWIMMING

HEY DEB will need to put in another order before long for valentines day hatch!
5.More bad news,something is wrong with my heart
good news is it isnt a blockage this time (been there done that 2 stints to prove it)
6.oh my hospital bed almost burnt up
7.air went out in hospital room
8.hospital staff LOST me docs,nurses,everyone could'nt find me in test they sent me too and nurses at nursing station LEFT all the whole floor was dark I waited for transport that never came.
9.Good news? I was discharged so fast it made my head spin. HAHA! wanted to come home for lock down ANYWAY!

Sorry to hear you were hospitalized! I used to work in the hospital, not a fun place to be. Hope you are doing better.
The PO has not been kind to eggs lately. Maybe they are mad about the sorting facilities closing. I am sure not happy about that ! I plan to keep listing eggs at auction, to ship early in the week. If you need some for a specific date, pm me. Take care, Deb

Thanks Deb!! We are sad about the carelessness of the darn PO!! it is rediculous! Well I can say not 1 single egg had so much as a crack! but I think they went over the box with a belt sander!!! BZZZZZ seriously they seemed scrambled in the shell...and those little silkie eggs seem more fragile to me already. Do you find this to be true? Well and this is our FIRST hatch ever so with three bators going we have taken on unbelivable odds I am sure. The turner got turned off for two whole days that we know of on your eggs also while i was in the hospital. I was so mad!!

Funny the big hearty breeds like the brahma and BO and BA and R are doing great so far! ALso the gift little Glw is doing great I was screaming last night its alive! its alive!!!

The REALLY fun part with your eggs Deb is that you mark everyone so we know what they are,thusly when you candle them and SEE a a baby doing the chickie boogie,You know it the silkie or GLW that you are waiting for...SO EXCITING!! I keep going over to the hatcher watching for pips and YESTERDAY was day 18 HAHAHA on those eggs.I know THOSE arent yours but they are kinda LIKE some of yours and obviously had a rough trip too. SOO I am interested to see how they hatch. GOD I need peeps!!!!!

I have been sitting out in the cold wind for over an hour trying to catch the EGG CRACKER.. I know any and all chickens will eat an egg once it is cracked.. but I needed to know which of the chicstards was cracking them.. missed a chance twice this morning while helping DH..got a lull in that action so baited a nest with an egg.. and waited.. and waited.. and waited.. just when I thought to give up.. there she goes.. I nabbed her feathered tail so and so -- and threw her (not really but wanted to) in the chick grow out side with my BCM rooster and two hens.. been watching for awhile now and no other action on the baited nest.. hoping against hope that I caught her in time before she could teach any others the trick. I can't kill to process my own birds but I am sorely tempted to try with this one.

no back outside to continue helping DH winterize the coops

I have heard of people blowing eggs, then filling them with hot sauce or horseradish, then bait the nest with that. If you want to know who is participating, try adding non red food color
There's a guy interested in buying my quail. I think I will just concentrate on the chickens. Too much to do , too little time. No progress on the goat shelter conversion, I am trying to give my back a rest. But the room in the barn really needed cleaning, so I shoveled out a whole wagon load of stuff from there and spread lime on the floor. Some rest, right? Of course then buckets of feed need toting, chickens need water, you know the drill.
Today I wrapped a lot of eggs, will have to get up early to pack more. And then off to the PO, Lowe's, etc.
It has gotten quite cold, I am not enjoying it at all. Plus it was terribly windy today. I worry about the chicks and the goats that are due to kid. Spring can't get here soon enough for me. DH keeps cutting down trees and I keep feeding the wood stove. I love it toasty warm. The cat is hanging out by the wood stove and resting after her surgery. She has been very quiet, which worries me a bit but I think she is going to be ok.
Guess I had better go check on my very pregnant goat and the chicks. Stay warm, folks !

I had so many boxes to ship today, it took three trips from the truck to get them into the po. It was very busy since they weren't open yesterday. I will have at least three more to ship tomorrow .
Went to goodwill, bought a bread box to turn into a nest box, lots of baby clothes, a plastic stool, and a chicken coop light. Got 2x4s at Lowe's , plus some Xmas decor at 75% off. Oh, forgot to mention I dress baby goats in kids pjs to keep them warm in weather like this. None born today that I know of. I will need to go lock Nina up in her pen soon.
It was nearly dark by the time I got back, so it was cold! My hose was frozen to the water hydrant this morning. Luckily it is supposed to warm up a bit soon , so perhaps I can get something done around here.Besides wrapping eggs

The guy came over to see the quail and he wants a price for all of them. And he might be interested in an incubator! We talked for about two hours, so I was late getting feeding done again. Tomorrow I go buy more chickens, u can never have enough, right? I got more feed today, unloaded the 2x4s, took plastics to be recycled, went to the PO. Got eggs in the mail, had to p/u at po. They were mailed Dec. 20Th!!!

where were they all this time???
I need to go check the barn and the goats. Hopefully it will warm up soon. I hate being cold.

New chickens from DMRippy,two flocks of different color Ameraucanas this time! Great to meet another BYC person in TN. Powerful incentive to get the coop made And 20 FBCM chicks... well half will be roosters, after all. Gosh, I need to finish feeding and count quail so i can give the guy a total. I should put an ad on CL to sell some of these EE youngsters as well.
