For free plans on a PVC runs and coop check this site out.

I've looked at them and with some modifications, I'm going to try the Portable Poultry Pen for an outdoor run for my new chicks. I was looking for something that is light weight to move around and still offer protection and separation from the other chickens but still be able to enjoy the weather. It will be a little before I build it but will take pictures and post them.

Thats where I got my plans from. I modified the greenhouse plans. It worked great, was cheap, and held up to 60-70 mph gusts in a recent storm

If you want to just contain birds, it should work but if you have any predators, you would be better looking on Craiglist for a chainlink dog run and top / skirt it for security or going with wood & welded wire

Have you worked out the square footage yet? I am thinking about using their large complex plan. Which one are you modifying?

Please keep us posted on how it goes!

We make our pens out of PVC - 10' x 10' with a square roosting area in the middle that they love. We tarp it over the top and also anchor it on the sides because we sometimes get 80 mph winds and are on top of a hill. We have had some horrendous storms and they have taken a beating and hold up very well.

I actually found this idea online and I'm going to use the idea of the PVC coop construction and modify it. Since I'm going to use PVC, I won't need the wheels. The tarp will cover the whole backside not just the top (protection from wind & sun), I'm going to use hanging feeder & water, the door will actually be one of the roof sides (easier to gather the chicks).

I'm calling this my chick daycare run. And with just a slight modification later, a brooder ground for a hen and her chicks. The dimensions planned are 4' long, 4'wide, 2' side posts and it should be around 4/5 feet at the peak. The temperatures here are in the upper 90 to lower 100 so with some care, the chicks should be fine outside during the day. I don't have much of a daytime predator problem except for my own dog (soon to be re-homed) and my adult chickens. I haven't quite got all the kinks out yet, I need a way to hold it down so that the wind doesn't take off with the run. Thinking extended side bars that can slide through brick holes.

For those concerned, this is a work in progress and no I'm not going to leave the chicks outside for very long periods of time or at night (when most of our predators come out). But if you have a suggests, please let me know.
