My uncle said I could do it with a peice of meat and a large rat trap? Anyone tried this? Im not sure it was a weasel, im thinking cat bc it only took a chick but everybody I talked to thinks weasel and one is an experienced trapper. Also if you've had a weasel problem can you provide so attack details like what time of day they usually come and how frequently what and how many they kill so I can compare?

Weasels and Mink typically attack early in the morning and late in the afternoon, returning sometimes days later if they spared any lives during the first raid. But they have come in broad, open daylight in some cases. They creep into the pen, when you least expect them, through tiny holes and burrows under the foundation. They can dig or crawl into almost anything that isn't tightly secured. They run at the chicken from the front, overwelming it, and slit it's throat for a quick kill. They drink the blood and eat the innards, sometimes taking the head. Then, when they are finished, they drag off as much uneaten food as they can carry back with them. They have also been known to indescriminately kill chickens, for no reason but pleasure, after they're done eating. If you've ever had a pet ferret, then you're probably familiar with the kind of personality a small pack of weasels sports. Fast, sneaky, highly organized little assassins with a soft spot for peanut butter. Also, remember that there will be several weasels involved in the attack and disposal, not just one. Good luck.

the Havahart traps are good to use and look up weasels favorite food perhaps grocery store bought chicken. DEFINITELY NOT LIVE CHICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Set a #0 longspring trap inside a large bean can baited with a mouse. Set the dog (trigger very light). Fold lid halfway back down and place along a wall where they are likely entering. You can also make a "cubby set" using 3 or 4 bricks. Weasels like to enter tight spaces looking for mice. They like to skulk along edges and walls like mice. Set several more in grasssy areas nearby. Look for little trails in the grass. They are big time mousers, mouse bait is irresistable. If you have a field full of mice or voles nearby, close mowing may reduce your weasel exposure. I've also heard they are terrified of owls. An owl decoy might work but haven't tried it. You can also use a commercial musk/mouse bait. My favorite is "just mice" from Minnesota Trapline Products. Works well for other predators also. A tuft of rabbit hair or chicken down at the entrance to your cubby will also help as a visual attractant.

i'm just glad we don't have weasels in mississippi, at least i've never heard of one [ or never have seen one ] around here. we have enough predators without adding weasels to the mix, as they appear to be sneaky little scutters. best wishes, good hunting.....
