List of bantam and mini breeds?

Thread Starter

I say mini breeds because I don't know what the right term for a bantam sized regular breed (RIR, Leghorn) is. But was wondering if anyone know where there was a list of not only true bantam breeds, but which full sized breeds have a bantam counterpart.

I don't have a list of them, but a judge once  told me this: " Every large fowl breed that exists has a bantam version, but not every bantam has a large fowl version", for example silkies are a bantam that have no Large fowl version of them.Trust me, It's not as confusing as it may sound lol

Actually there are large fowl silkies, just not in the US.

heres a better example: you can get a standard or a bantam RIR, but only a bantam d'uccle big_smile you can look in the bantam standard. it lists all the recognized bantam breed and there are so many unrecognized i doubt there's any single list that has all of them.

Okay I'm confused. If there is no large silkies then I have a bay that is really small and is from the same hatch.

There are Large silkies all over the place, but just because they bigger than some of the other bantams doesn't necessarily mean that they are large fowl it sometimes just means that they are silkie bantams that just don't meet the ABA size standards. In a serious silkie breeding program usually the overly large birds are considered "culls" and sold.
