My NEW Breeding Pens

it does not keep debris out. we are letting the rain go in a barrel so the sediment can settle there and dipping out the clear water on top. right now it is freezing so they are getting water in pans.

I'm sooo gonna use your idea!!

I love this idea! I've been wondering how I was going to separate mating pairs and this is a great idea! It's like a HUGE rabbit hutch type assembly line of mating chickens :D

Great job, great idea and great price!

How are they seem to be holding up to the weather? Someone was telling me that pallets will fall apart outside after a year or so. I love this. I just got into chicken and all ready have plans for four or five coops.
Actually.....i have a friend who lives 2 hrs from me and she built an entire 8 stall horse barn comeplete with a tack room, a feed room, and a chicken coop out of 95% pallets lol. It has now been standing sound for 5 yrs, even with the several hundred pounds of snow we get on top of buildings here.

They are holding up quite well really. I would only make a few changes to my original. Chickens are a little harder than horses on pens. The poop is eating through some of the wood. One leg has come off completely but is not causing a problem.

I am hoping to build more of these and I will make some changes. I will probably make a new thread when I do build again. Some things I will probably use pressure treated wood. Probably use wire floors in the coop part and have longer and wider runs.

im joining thing thread :D

There is not much activity on this thread LOL. If anyone wants to share ideas here FEEL FREE! I am going to building New ones in the next year or two. These are working fine but I would like to have some that have a way to keep the water from freezing in the winter so I would need electricity for that I think. I want to make them taller and a little better designed..... still using pallets and free wood..... can't go broke housing these guys LOL.
