Large fowl hens + bantam rooster = ???

No, Casey was only about 9 months old at the time. Romeo, the little guy, is our first roo, so he's around 4 years old. Our alpha roo, Rocky, is almost as old as Romeo and they get along fine together. Casey was sold soon afterward. Most of my boys get sold or given away before they are grown. I just keep a few roos and they all pretty much get along. The young ones learn their place in the pecking order.

In the case of my roos, Rocky (LF light Brahma) and Romeo, Romeo has decided Rocky is the boss and they never squabble. They free range and there are plenty of girls to share, although Romeo is challenged by having most of his women about 4 times his size. He has his little Juliet, though, and hangs out with her.

So it's true that despite the smaller packaging, the bantam roos have the same amount of @$$-kickin' attitude.

He looks like he's got his work cut out for him, though, having to look UP at the ladies all of the time.

So cute! My silkie roo also has only one bantam girl - Lorraine. That is his favourite girl. He doesn't like when she is upset.

I have yet to see my cockerel get bossy with anyone. The girls all have him at the bottom of the pecking order. Even my pullet the same age is higher than he is

I have a bantam oeg in with two large hens with no problem, he's happy and the hens pretty much ignore him. Most of my bantams are much quieter than large fowl. Their crow is higher pitched and shorter. A squeaky toy is a good description. I had a RIR rooster you could hear several blocks away but I can barely hear my banties at the end of my driveway. The one exception in a sebright cock I have that has a loud shrill voice and his crow is so weird, he doesn't even sound like a chicken.

The entertainment value in the mental image that came to mind at that is priceless.

Oh, I didn't mean that bantam roosters were quieter, just smaller voices....higher pitched, I guess I meant to say. For some reason, my DH finds that less obnoxious than a full blown crow. I think the high pitch actually carries better and may be MORE obnoxious, but either way, I don't mind crowing. I kind of enjoy it.

my roosters are also dreadful layers

I have 4 month old Cochin and duucle roosters (to my surprise). They were my only chickens. Yesterday I got them 4 -2 month old hens. The pecked at them for the first 5 mins then it's funny, bachelor pad vs girls night out!

They really don't mind each other at all...that may change as they get older but hopefully the girls will be big enougH to defend themselves! I must say, now that I finally have hens, I see that they are much smarter..just sayin:lau. And as far as the crow...pathetic! PAT the new rooster is SAD at crowing! Hehe It totally cracks me up, even early!

Awesome! I'm glad to hear this sounds like a feasible setup. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from the neighbors about what they'd think regarding the crowing....and what two of them think about dealing with a roo (they house sit when we're away), and we'll see what happens from there!

But look at how much FUN that guy seems to be having! It's not about the laying, just the ride.
