Cat With Sores On His Chin...(pics)

Kitty zits. Remove any plastic bowls, get some antibiotics to clear up, and once this outbreak is over, give it an occasional wipe with a Witch Hazel dampened cotton ball to help reduce the possibility of a repeat occurrence.

Vetericyn is a spray. It is basically water that has been chemically changed. It comes in a regular spray and a gel form that doesn't drip, but it will "cake up" a bit on longer hair. Here is a link to their website http://vetericyn.com/technology/ It is harmless to the animal, they even have a spray specifically for eyes.

My cat got that once from fleas/itching. My cats have never had fleas before, then my mother came to stay with us, and of course her cat came baring "friends". Before I knew it, my kitty had scratched his chin raw!!! Some good Advantage, and some antibiotics and it cleared right up. I know everyone says acne, but I just wanted to shoot out another option I've run across. Never had a problem since!!!

Teramycin is for eyes. Good luck Wendy. I hope your kitty recovers quickly.

Lennie my ginger cat also had spots and rawness under his chin. We took him to the vet who prescribed steroids for about a month, plus 4 visits to the vet.

There was the loss of fur from under his chin, and discomfort still there after the steroids. We were told a continuation of the steroids could be on the cards forever and an expensive operation ($500+).

Between my wife (librarian/teacher/nurse) and myself (researcher/scientist) we looked at the issue differently.

What was happening ?
1. Len's food bowl and water bowl were on the kitchen floor
2. His diet was high quality food - dry food and a teaspoon of processed wet food (canned) daily
3. We saw he was possibly dragging his chin through the wet food and there were residues under his chin potentially "going off" breeding bacteria, smelling, sore

What we did
1. Change his diet immediately to a different, but still high quality food (Royal Canin Skin & Stomach dry food and Royal Canin Skin wet food)
2. Sit his bowls up off the floor so he now stands and eats/drinks - up about 5 inches or 12 centimetres

Results
1. New fur growth under his chin - the rawness is almost gone. He can't drag his chin through the wet food
2. No discomfort - I can rub his chin and Len is OK with that
3. Len's a happy guy
4. Potentially saved $500+
5. Continual monitoring of his chin

So this result is not saying vets do not sort out medical issues - we just thought a different look at the issue might prove helpful to our friend and mate Len and it has.
$500 in our pocket - let's party !!
